I did not know! Of course Richarson hasn't quite left the political stage, being still the governor of New Mexico.

See also thecommentary at NRO by Jim Geraghty, wanting to know what the "thirty pieces of silver" are supposed to be, if Richardson's endorsement is the equivalent of betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.

Apparently when he left the political stage, he went back to being plain 'ole Mister Richardson, follower of the Court of Clinton. Did you not know?

It is disturbing that the state of FL would spend money to house an inmate that has obviously rehabilitated himself on his own. It has been 30 years since the crime and he has not violated any laws. He has a family and is also a foreman at his place of work. I see news broadcast's on how the prisons are failing to rehabilitate inmates and everyone is complaining about it. Then you get an individual who accomplishes this task on his own and it still is not good enough. Im not saying that he shouldn't be penalized at all. Maybe some fines and a couple of months in jail. Keep in mind it cost around $98.00 a day to house an inmate.

Just 14 ? Young Padawan, you have a lot learn :)

For starters, strive to use at least half the browsers in http://browsers.evolt.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_web_browsers

For daily usage a QuickLaunch bar (freelaunchbar.com) such as this would be adequate: http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/5544/clipboard02do8.gif

And a somewhat sane benchmark for the number of addons:

Application: Firefox 4.0a1pre (2008030202)
Operating System: WINNT (x86-msvc)

Thanks for the browser tip, quodlibeter.

I don't agree that Microsoft was guilty of "anti-competitive" practices in offering its Internet Explorer browser.

One of the cardinal claims of the Justice Department's anti-trust litigation, and of many critics of Microsoft who implicitly share the same anti-capitalist bias, is that it is somehow "anti-competitive" to tie a browser to an operating system, perhaps also a shoelace to a shoe. This means that it is "anti-competitive" for a product to have, um, features. Or at least, to have more features than it had the day before yesterday. So much for 2008-era cell phones and all the other newfangled electronic stuff that does ten things at once.

There's not as much complaint these days that Microsoft had the temerity to offer its browser for free, since almost all other browsers now are also free.

Anti-trust actions are typically brought be firms rebelling not against "anti-competitive" practices but against competition they can't beat peacefully. Anti-trust law is a weapon to be wielded not against bona fide criminals but against firms that are "too" successful, too good at meeting the needs of customers, and too good at using its success to date as capital to create further successes.

So what would be a genuinely "anti-competitive" practice? Trying to punish a company for doing its work and to prevent it from offering the results of its efforts on the market on its own terms. The sort of thing perpetrated by those who wield anti-trust law as a club instead of focusing on finding better ways to satisfy customers.

p.s. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_browser#Early_WWW_browsers" title="en.wikipedia" rel="nofollow">Netscape was the first mass-market web browser</a>, It basically made the web, Internet Explorer came in and used anti-competitive market practices to drive them out of business. A couple years before Netscape threw in their towel the first time they open-sourced their netscape-navigator code and created the Mozilla organization which eventually became the Mozilla Foundation (mentioned in my other comment) about when Microsoft bribed AOL to stop <em>really</em> making Netscape. So Firefox is actually the direct descendant of Netscape.

Try typing about:mozilla in your Firefox location bar.

Thanks for the post, here's some info you and your readers might like:

For your asus eee try <a href="http://www.dillo.org/" title="dillo project page" rel="nofollow">Dillo</a>, it's a linux browser that's incredibly lightweight at the cost of prettiness and javascript. I know packages are available for fedora, so i'm reasonably sure you can install it pretty easily on the eeePC.

Also, regarding Mozilla, Firefox, Flock, Wyzo, and Netscape Navigator: Mozilla is a non-profit foundation whose <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/about/mozilla-manifesto.html" title="the mozilla manifesto" rel="nofollow">manifest purpose</a> is to improve the internet. Actually, Mozilla is more accurately called a community and group of technologies dedicated to improving the internet, but: Firefox is their primary product, although they also make Thunderbird and are involved in many web standards organizations and have been funding accessibility research and implementation so the web works for the blind, people with parkinson's, etc. Gecko is the name of their rendering engine, and is open-source so anybody can take it and modify it and re-distribute it, which leads to many of the other browsers you mentioned.

Flock, and Camino (mac-only) are all built on top of gecko, diverging from Firefox mostly in terms of their skin and integration. (Flock integrates with online services, Camino integrates with OSX.) Wyzo and Netscape navigator are really just Firefox with an extension or two pre-installed and different themes.

My software stops most automatic pop-up ads. So if there are a lot of them here at the Wordpress site or the Dollar for My Thoughts blog, I don't see them.

I dislike automatic pop-up ads but I do like the idea of pop-up annotations to help learning, as long as the reader must trigger them rather than accept being assailed by them as the default. At the New York Times site, you can now look up info on a word in a dictionary or other reference just by double-clicking on it. That evokes a web page, however, rather than a pop-up box; a little slow and, obviously, only functional if you're online.

Virkkala elsewhere (i.e., not in the pop-up box) explains that the line is inadvertently "truculent" because the original first paragraph, the set-up, was dropped from the article as published. To wit: "Years ago at a political convention, a friend approached me and pointed to my political button, which was adorned with the slogan Question Authority. Who are you, he demanded, to tell me to question authority? Well, I can play egoistic one-upmanship as well as the next guy, so I responded: This is not a command but a statement. I am the Question Authority!" Maybe Virkkala did not want to put too much text in the one pop-up box. We might get tired.

Hello, finally, a response. I thought maybe you had acted on your knowledge and disappeared altogether. By the way, re-reading the post again, I didn't know you are in Florida. I'd thought LFB was in NYC.

Anyway, here is my recipe for a sport shake: combine in blender 1 cup plain yogurt, 1 egg white, 1cup soft fruit (peach, strawberries, mango, seedless grapes), 1 cup crushed ice, 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Blend. Fill in enough water or soy milk to make 1 quart. You can substitute the egg white for one scoop of whey protein. If you want it sweeter, add a packet of Equal. Let me know how you like it.

That's two questions, two dollars. I guess you're just never going to learn whether I ever attempted to reverse-engineer the Sport Shake.

As I'm feeling temporarily charitable I'll answer the second question. Laissez Faire Books ended LFB Blog a few months back when the then-owner decided to close the business. The service was later bought by the International Society of Individual Liberty, which I gather is in the process of building the site and doing other things to get a handle on its acquisition. Their announcement is at lfb.org and isil.org.

The LFB Blog is gone from the LFB site but I have the archives and may repost them on the net at some point, perhaps at davidmbrown.com.
